Letting Your Linens Speak: Three Best Wedding Linen Ideas
As you peruse Pinterest in your quest to develop a wedding aesthetic, you may begin to realize the extent to which your linen choices inform the overall visual experience of your celebration. Do you echo your wedding colors or keep it neutral? Do you swag drapery or let it hang straight? These are questions we, too, have had during our six years of wedding design and coordination. Using inspiration from our styled shoot at Chapel in the Hollow with Star Noir Photography, we’re here today to offer a few tips on how to create a luxe atmosphere through your linens.
- Choose a key focal point and concentrate your drapery there. At this venue, the A-frame of the porch naturally catches the eye. By draping this area, you automatically elevate your guests’ first impression of your venue while simultaneously introducing an air of sophistication that the rest of your linens will mimic. Furthermore, by choosing to allow the drapery to puddle on the ground, you create a sense of fluidity in which the man-made elements of your wedding design seem to blend effortlessly into the venue’s organic surroundings.
2. Experiment with scale and contrast. Given the decidedly earthy color palette of this wooded reception setting, the choice to use a pop of contrasting color in the table linens automatically brings a degree of drama to the scene. Similarly, the choice to combine four six-foot tables into one twenty-four-foot table fosters a sense of opulence and excess which perfectly complements the tension between the linen’s color and its environment. Notice, too, that the linen puddles, and the cushions have been removed from the Chivari chairs; these details maximize the effect of your linens by simply allowing them to speak for themselves.
3. Create large moments through smaller vignettes. While the typical cake table is a 60″ round, you can expand its aesthetic impact exponentially by opting for a 30″ round and covering it with an oversized linen, thus increasing the table’s visual effect while also continuing the motif of puddling established by your drapery. Overlapping loosely folded table runners beneath the cake lends interest to the vignette, and tucking in a few flowers adds a sense of depth.
While every element of your wedding is important to the event’s overall success, we believe that linens are an often underestimated detail, and we hope these suggestions help you create a beautiful, unforgettable wedding.
